Santa Clara beats Loyola Marymount 85-54 in WCC tourney

LAS VEGAS (AP) Jared Brownridge and Brandon Clark scored 19 each and No. 7 seed Santa Clara rolled 10th-seeded Loyola Marymount 85-54 in the opening round of the West Coast Conference tournament on Friday night.

Jarvis Pugh added 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Santa Clara (14-17), which earned a matchup with No. 2 seed Brigham Young in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Evan Payne had 16 of his 29 points in the second half and Ayodeji Egbeyemi added 14 points for Loyola Marymount (8-23).

The Broncos held LMU to 22 points on 7-of-30 shooting in the first half. The Lions got no closer than 48-37 in the second and Santa Clara outscored LMU 37-17 from there to reach their largest lead at the final score.

Santa Clara shot 19 of 30 (63.3 percent) in the second half. Brownridge finished 5 for 8 from 3-point range and Santa Clara was 9 for 17.
