Iona hits MAAC tourney record 19 3s to beat Monmouth 95-77

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Isaiah Williams and A.J. English combined for 16 of Iona's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament record 19 3-pointers and the top-seeded Gaels beat No. 4 seed Monmouth 95-77 on Sunday in the semifinals.

Iona made a school-record 24 3-pointers on Nov. 26, 2014.

Williams had a MAAC tournament single-game record nine 3s and finished with 27 points for Iona (26-7) in his fourth game back after missing 12 contests with a foot injury. English hit seven more 3s and had 29 points.

David Laury, the MAAC Player of the Year, had seven points, five rebounds and six assists for the Gaels.

Max DiLeo scored 21 points, making 5 of 7 3s, and Deon Jones added 18 points for Monmouth (18-15). The Hawks trailed by 12 points at halftime after Iona scored a season-high 57 first-half points.

Iona advances to face third-seeded Manhattan for the third consecutive year in the championship game.
