Haws' late jumper lifts BYU over Santa Clara 78-76 in WCC

LAS VEGAS (AP) Tyler Haws had 30 points, and hit the game-winning jumper with 2.5 seconds left, to lead second-seeded BYU over seventh-seeded Santa Clara 78-76 on Saturday in the West Coast Conference quarterfinals.

BYU (24-8) will face sixth-seeded Portland (17-14) in the semis on Monday.

BYU's Skyler Halford drove for layups on consecutive possessions to make it a five-point game with 3:54 left.

After trading baskets, Brandon Clark drained one from way downtown to make it a two-point game. Then Jarvis Pugh stripped it and Jared Brownridge went the other way for a layup to tie it at 76 with 28 seconds remaining.

But on a set play, Haws nailed a pull-up jumper from 17 feet and Clark's mid-court heave to win as time expired was short.

Santa Clara (14-18) was led by Brownridge with 29 points and Clark finished with 23.

The teams were tied at halftime at 36.
