Albany tops Stony Brook, wins America East on Hooley buzzer beater

Albany beat Stony Brook on a thee-pointer by Peter Hooley to win the America East tournament. The Great Danes will play in a third straight NCAA tournament.

Albany beat Stony Brook, 51-50, on a thee-pointer by Peter Hooley from the top of the key to win the America East tournament on Saturday.

Hooley's shot was the last of the game and came with less than two seconds remaining. The win gave Albany its third America East tournament title in a row. Stony Brook was looking for its first ever trip to the NCAA tournament.

​Stony Brook's Carson Puriefoy missed a free throw with 17 seconds left in the game.

Hooley scored 10 points for the Great Danes. Sam Rowley led the team with 14 points. Puriefoy had 23 points for Stony Brook, and Jameel Warney added 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Fans stormed the court after the game.
