NEW YORK (AP) The NIT Season Tip-Off, a Thanksgiving event since 1985, will no longer be played at Madison Square Garden.

The Garden said over the weekend during the Big East Tournament that it ''does not have the dates to accommodate the (NIT Season Tip-Off) next year.''

There was no official word on where the tournament would relocate for the semifinals and finals. One location that would seem to be a good spot for the event would be the Barclays Center, also located in New York.

Spokespeople for both the Barclays Center and the NCAA, which owns the preseason and postseason NIT, said Sunday they would not have any comment.

The first Preseason NIT was held in 1985 and three of the semifinalists - Louisville, Duke and Kansas - all advanced to the Final Four that season.
