Smith was third on the team with 41 receptions and 596 yards last season.

The Sun Devils' coaching staff had expected Smith to help replace Jaelen Strong, who was the team's top receiver, according to Doug Haller of the Arizona Republic. Strong caught 82 passes for 1,165 yards and 10 touchdowns as a redshirt junior last season. Running back D.J. Foster was the team's second-leading receiver and will be back next season.

Smith did not play in Arizona State's win over Duke in the Sun Bowl last season due to the same knee injury.

ASU's spring game is scheduled for April 10 and will be shown on the Pac-12 Network.
