SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has hired former Buffalo head coach Jeff Quinn to be an offensive analyst for the Fighting Irish.

Kelly said Wednesday after Notre Dame's first spring practice that Quinn will have different responsibilities in terms of offensive oversight, saying he brings more ''brain power.''

Quinn said after taking the job at Buffalo following the 2009 season that he had turned down Kelly's offer to be Notre Dame's offensive coordinator. Quinn spent 21 years as an assistant under Kelly at Cincinnati, Central Michigan and Grand Valley State before being hired at Buffalo. The offensive analyst job is a non-coaching job.

The hiring comes after Kelly announced he had hired Mike Sanford from Boise State to be Notre Dame's offensive coordinator.

Quinn was at practice Wednesday.
