Youngstown State University announced on Tuesday that Carl Pelini, the older brother of the team's head coach Bo Pelini, had been named defensive line coach.

Carl Pelini was defensive coordinator under his brother at Nebraska from 2008 to 2011. After the 2011 season, he took over the program at Florida Atlantic University.

However, he resigned from his position at FAU in late 2013. Pelini said that he was forced out because he failed to report an incident involving a staff member, and because athletic director Peter Chun wanted to hire his own football coach. Chun, however, cited several allegations of illegal drug use for Pelini's exit.

He denied those allegations in an interview with Sports Illustrated last year.

Carl Pelini is a 1989 graduate of YSU, and has coached in both college and high school. The school's announcement coincides with the start of the Penguins's spring practices.

Youngstown State finished last season 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the Missouri Valley conference. The Penguins will start the 2015 season on Sept. 5, on the road against Pittsburgh.
