BYU, Mississippi State agree to 2-game football series

PROVO, Utah (AP) BYU and Mississippi State will face off on the football field in 2016 and 2017 after agreeing to a home-and-home series.

The schools announced Friday that BYU will host the Bulldogs on Oct. 15, 2016. Mississippi State will host the Cougars on Oct. 14, 2017.

The teams have played twice in school history during a home-and-home series in 2000-01. Mississippi State won on the road in 2000 and lost at home in 2001.

BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a statement, ''It's a great opportunity for our football team to play a very good SEC program.''
