Texas men's basketball coach Rick Barnes and the Longhorns have mutually agreed to part ways, the school announced Sunday.

ESPN reported Saturday that Barnes would be fired.

Barnes was told by Texas athletic director Steve Patterson that he would have to replace his staff if he wanted to remain in his position, according to a report by NBC Sports. On Thursday, it was reported that Patterson told Barnes he needed to make changes to the program if he wanted to keep his job.

NBC Sports reported on Friday that Barnes was not planning to accept Patterson's demands and was not expected to return to Texas.

Barnes, who is the winningest coach in Texas basketball history, led the Longhorns to the Final Four in 2003. Barnes has 604 career wins, 402 of which have come in 17 seasons at Texas.

Texas made the tournament this year, but lost in the round of 64 to Butler. The Longhorns finished the year 20-14.
