St. John’s, coach Steve Lavin mutually agree to part ways
St. John’s men’s basketball head coach Steve Lavin have mutually agreed to part ways after five seasons, the school announced on Friday.
The Red Storm finished 21-12 this season and lost to San Diego State in the second round of the NCAA tournament last week.
During his five seasons at the school, Lavin compiled a 92-72 record, making the NCAA tournament in his first and last seasons.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Andy Katz reported the two sides were discussing an extension because Lavin only had one season remaining on his contract.
Lavin coached UCLA from 1996 through 2003 and compiled a 145-78 record, including six NCAA tournament appearances. In between coaching jobs, he worked as an analyst for ESPN.
