Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall is interested in replacing Rick Barnes at TexasYahoo's Pat Forde reports

Texas and Barnes "mutually agreed to part ways" after 17 years, the school announced Sunday. Barnes won at least 20 games in 15 of his 17 years but hadn't advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA tournament since 2008.

Alabama had also been reportedly interested in offering Marshall more than $3 million annually to coach the Crimson Tide.

From Forde's report:

Sources told Yahoo Sports that Marshall already had signaled Alabama not to waste its energy putting together a whopper offer for his services, because he had his eyes on Texas. So this conceivably could be a short courtship – if anything can get done simply in Austin.

Marshall is 204-76 in eight years with the Shockers. His team advanced to the Sweet 16 this season but was defeated by Notre Dame.

"[I]t's going to take some type of crazy offer to get us to leave Wichita State," Marshall said on The Jim Rome Show on Tuesday.
