Virginia guard B.J. Stith transferring to Old Dominion
Virginia freshman guard B.J. Stith is transferring to Old Dominion, the school announced on Friday.
Stith played in just 13 games as a freshman, averaging 1.0 points and 0.6 rebounds. His father, Bryant, played for Virginia from 1989 through 1992 and is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,516 points. Bryant is an assistant coach at Old Dominion, and his brother Brandan plays for the team.
Coach Tony Bennett said Stith told him during a year-end meeting that he was leaving to find more playing time.

“It is with great sadness that I’m leaving the University of Virginia,” Stith said. “I want to thank Coach Bennett, the entire basketball staff, my teammates and Cavalier Nation for allowing me to realize my life-long dream. The love I received from everyone associated with Virginia Basketball was overwhelming. I will forever be grateful for the support. However, I know in my heart that my steps have been ordered.”
Virginia won the ACC regular season title for the second straight season and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. The Cavaliers were upset by N.C. State in the round of 32.
