Jim Harbaugh: Shane Morris leads Michigan's quarterback battle
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Saturday that Shane Morris leads the team's quarterback battle.
The other scholarship quarterbacks on the Wolverines' roster are sophomore Wilton Speight and true freshman Alex Malzone, an early enrollee. Michigan will add another true freshman, Zach Gentry, and a graduate transfer, former Iowa quarterback Jake Rudock, in preseason camp.
In the Wolverines' spring game on Saturday, Morris completed 11-of-24 pass attempts for 135 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Malzone completed 15-of-27 passes for 95 yards and two interceptions and Speightreportedly did not play because of a leg injury.

"If I looked at it overall, the spring ball, Shane would be ahead," Harbaugh said. "The competition will rage on, starting tomorrow, into April, into May and certainly into June, July and August."

"I thought that Shane played quite well, played with good courage in the pocket, stood in there and made some good throws," Harbaugh said. "I was pleased with the way he played. I think he'll come out of this feeling good about the way he played and build some good confidence."
With Devin Gardner and Morris playing the majority of snaps last season, Michigan ranked 10th in the Big Ten in passing efficiency rating.
The Wolverines open the 2015 season at Utah on September 3.
