Once-homeless Baylor running back Nacita ruled permanently ineligible

Baylor running back Silas Nacita has been ruled permanently ineligible.

Baylor running back Silas Nacita has been ruled permanently ineligible, he told Bleacher Report's Adam Kramer.

Nacita, 21, was homeless when he walked on at Baylor in June 2014. In February, Nacita was informed by a school official that he was off the team, pending investigation, for accepting improper benefits.

The benefits Nacita accepted included a place to live, food and financial support given to him by "acquaintances from home" in Bakersfield, Calif., as Nacita detailed in a tweet back in February. On March 25, Nacita was informed that he was permanently ineligible. Baylor confirmed the information to Kramer. 

"I didn't shed a tear in the meeting. I wasn't angry. I shook their hands," Nacita told Bleacher Report. "It was a pleasant conversation. I didn't go into the meeting expecting good news. I went in expecting confirmation, and that's what I got. I had a little hope in the back of my heart, but when they told me, it was almost a relief. I could start thinking about my future."

Nacita has begun investigating options at the NAIA level.

"I worked so hard for 12 years for this game, and I have lost it," Nacita told Bleacher Report. "Whatever it is [I need to do to play again], it would be worth it."
