TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Alabama guard Ricky Tarrant is leaving the program after a coaching change.

New Crimson Tide coach Avery Johnson announced Friday that Tarrant requested and was granted release to transfer to another school.

Tarrant was second on the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game last season but missed the final 15 games with a foot injury. After two years at Tulane, he sat out the 2013-14 season after transferring to Alabama.

Johnson says he met with Tarrant Wednesday after being formally introduced as coach ''and shared with him that we wanted him back next season.'' He says Tarrant called the next day and said he was leaving.

Tarrant says he ''felt like it was in my best interest to move on and play my senior season elsewhere.''
