NEW YORK (AP) Barry Rohrssen and Matt Abdelmassih, considered two of the better recruiters in college basketball, have been named to fill the first two positions on Chris Mullin's coaching staff at St. John's.

Rohrssen, an assistant at Pittsburgh and Kentucky and a former head coach at Manhattan, was named associate head coach on Monday. Abdelmassih was an assistant at Iowa State, the same position he will hold at his alma mater.

Mullin was named coach at St. John's on April 1, less than a week after the school and Steve Lavin agreed to part ways. Lavin was the coach for five seasons and the Red Storm made two NCAA Tournament appearances in that span.

Rohrssen spent last season as an assistant to John Calipari at Kentucky. The Wildcats went unbeaten until the national semifinals when they lost to Wisconsin. In Abdelmassih's four years at Iowa State under Fred Hoiberg the Cyclones made the NCAA Tournament each year, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2014.
