UAB to decide on possible football program reinstatement by June 1
UAB will decide by June 1 whether to reinstate the school's shuttered football program, university president Ray Watts announced Wednesday.
When the school eliminated the football, rifle and bowling teams in December, Watts said it was because the programs had become too expensive.
The school will vote after it reviews a report analyzing the financial feasibility of reinstating football. That report is due out on May 15. A report released in December found that continuing the football program was more cost-effective than shutting it down. An April report funded by UAB boosters found that the school could turn a $500,000 annual profit by maintaining a football team.

Earlier this month donors said they raised $6 million to revive the program.
UAB risks being expelled from Conference USA if it does not bring back football, AL.com reports.
The Blazers were 6–6 last season but were not selected to play in a bowl game after the decision to shut down the program was announced.
Many players have transferred to other programs, but head coach Bill Clark said he will not coach next season, in part because he hopes the team could return.
