Minnesota and head coach Richard Pitino nabbed a commitment from former VCU signee Jordan Murphy on Friday.

Murphy, a 6-foot-7 forward from San Antonio, was granted his release from his National Letter of Intent by new VCU coach Will Wade after former Rams head coach Shaka Smart took the Texas job. He tweeted out his decision on Friday night. Rivals.com rates him as a three-star prospect.

The commitment marks the seventh member of Pitino's incoming recruiting class, which also includes guards Kevin Dorsey, Jarvis Johnson and DupreeMcBrayer, forward Ahmad Gilbert and center Jonathan Nwankwo. Minnesota also picked up forward Reggie Lynch, a transfer from Illinois State who will sit out in 2015-16 and have two seasons of eligibility left.

Murphy averaged 23.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season at Brennan High School, which went undefeated in Texas District 27-6A.
