LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP)—SMU guard Nic Moore will join the Kansas basketball program to represent the U.S. as the World University Games in South Korea later this summer.

The Jayhawks are unable to include Svi Mykhailiuk on their roster because he is from Ukraine, and fellow guard Brannen Greene recently had hip surgery. So with a depleted backcourt, coach Bill Self reached out to his former mentor Larry Brown for help.

Brown, now the coach at SMU, said Moore would love to play. The reigning American Athletic Conference player of the year averaged 14.5 points and 5.1 assists last year.

Part of the reason Moore makes sense is SMU runs a system similar to Kansas, making it easier to incorporate him into the roster.

The tournament begins July 3 in Gwangu, South Korea.
