Five-star defensive tackle Ed Oliver committed to the Houston Cougars Thursday night, according to 247Sports, becoming the highest-rated prospect ever to do so.

Oliver is the first five-star prospect to commit to any non-Power 5 conference school since at least 2006, according to ESPN's rankings.

Houston beat out LSU, Texas and Alabama for Oliver's services. Oliver was the consensus No. 13 prospect according to several of the nation's recruiting services, an SB Nation report said

"I enjoy my time at U of H. Every time I go, they show me love. I like it because my brother is there and my old head coach is there," Oliver said in an interview with 247Sports in February.

"Anybody who asks me, ‘Why Houston?’ they got to look at the big picture before they look at the schools, because what we could do at Houston is crazy.”

Oliver will join three-star quarterback commit Bowman Sells as the team's other major 2016 recruit.

Houston opens its 2015 football season on Sept. 5 against Tennessee Tech.
