NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Old Dominion men's basketball coach Jeff Jones has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery on Monday.

Jones says in a release from the school that a check-up in late 2014 revealed that he had an elevated PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) level. He says he had follow-up tests during the season and a biopsy in April confirmed the cancer.

The 54-year-old Jones will have the surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He says he feels fortunate to have ''caught this when we did'' and hopes to return to his coaching duties soon.

Jones has been at ODU for two seasons and this season led them to a 27-8 record and the semifinals of the NIT.

In 23 years as a college coach, he has a 402-313 record with 11 postseason appearances.
