Tennessee has 'moved on' from Williams being part of team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The Tennessee Volunteers say they have ''moved on'' from Michael Williams being part of the football team. The cornerback was indicted on aggravated rape charges in February.

Tennessee officials didn't say whether Williams had been permanently kicked off the team, but when athletic department spokesman Jason Yellin was asked if there were any circumstances under which Williams could return, Yellin reiterated that, ''We've moved on.''

Williams was suspended along with former Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson in November, the day before Knoxville police named them as suspects in a rape investigation.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel first reported Williams' updated status.

Johnson, who also was indicted in February, graduated in December. Williams was a sophomore last season.

Lawyers for Williams and Johnson have said their clients are innocent of the charges.
