Murray State hires Matt McMahon as new head coach
Murray State has hired Matt McMahon as its new men's basketball coach, the school announced on Tuesday.
McMahon replaces Steve Prohm, who was announced as the next head coach of Iowa State on Monday.
Over the last four seasons, McMahon served as an assistant coach on Prohm's staff for the Racers. Last month, he left to become the associate head coach at Louisiana Tech.
“I am so excited to know that Coach McMahon will be returning to Murray State to lead the Racers,” said athletic director Allen Ward. “After watching him for four years, I'm convinced he's the right man for the job. He's an outstanding coach, nationally recognized as one of the top assistants in the country, with a tremendous upside. Matt has the talent and integrity to continue the momentum we've built, put his own stamp on the program, and meet the expectations that come with being the head coach at Murray State.”

McMahon has also been an assistant at Appalachian State and UNC-Wilmington.
Murray State finished 29–6 (16–0 OVC), just missing a bid to the NCAA tournament on a buzzer-beater by Belmont in the OVC tournament final. The Racers earned a bid to the NIT, where they lost to Old Dominion on a buzzer-beater in the quarterfinals.
