Former Arizona and Texas quarterback Connor Brewer is transferring to Virginia.

247Sports.com first reported the transfer and Brewer later confirmed it to ESPN’s Joe Schad before sharing the news on Twitter.

“I’m not one to renege on a commitment but the academic and athletic aspects of UVA were something I could not pass up,” Brewer wrote.

Brewer will be eligible to play immediately after graduating from Arizona. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Brewer initially committed to Northern Arizona, but a spot at Virginia opened when Grayson Lambert transferred to Georgia last week. Brewer is expected to compete for Virginia’s starting job with junior Matt Johns, who beat Lambert for the top spot this spring.

Brewer, a 6'2, 206-pound quarterback, originally committed to Texas and redshirted in 2012. He later transferred to Arizona, sat out the 2013 season and was a backup behind Anu Solomon last season.

Brewer came out of Scottsdale (Chaparral), Ariz., as a four-star recruit and the No. 10 quarterback in the class of 2012, according to Rivals.com.

Virginia finished 5–7 and 3–5 in ACC play last season, its fifth under head coach Mike London.
