Three-star center Joey Brunk verbally committed to Butler on Sunday.

Brunk, a 6'10", 230-pound center from Indianapolis (Southport), chose Butler over offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Purdue, Xavier and other schools. He is Butler’s first commitment for 2016.

Rivals.com ranks Butler a three-star center and the No. 138 player in the class of 2016, though his ranking is expected to rise following his commitment on Sunday. Brunk took official visits to Butler and Oklahoma before choosing the Bulldogs.

Last season, Brunk averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as Southport went 23–3.

“It’s right down the street essentially for me,” Brunk said of Butler after his official visit earlier this month, according to The Indianapolis Star. “I have a good relationship with coach [Chris] Holtmann. I got to visit with [athletic director] Barry Collier. I hung out with the team and got to play in open gym. We went bowling for a little bit. I had a good visit. I felt like I hit if off with the players.”

Butler finished 23–11 last season in Holtmann’s first year, reaching the third round of the NCAA tournament before losing to Notre Dame.
