Sean Combs charged with assault after alleged fight with UCLA coach
Musician and businessman Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested by UCLA campus police and faces five charges after an altercation with a Bruins football coach, the school announced Monday.
Combs was arrested at the school's training center for allegedly assaulting the coach with a kettlebell, a rounded metal weight. Combs's son Justin is a redshirt junior defensive back for UCLA.
No one was seriously injured, the school said, and Combs was booked at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Reception Center on Monday and released after posting $50,000 bail. Combs's next court appearance is July 13.
FoxSports.com's Bruce Feldman reported the alleged victim is UCLA strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi and that Alosi told Justin Combs to leave Monday's practice and go work out with his dad's personal trainer.
Alosi, who was on the New York Jets staff, is best known for tripping Miami Dolphins special teams player Nolan Carroll near the Jets' sideline during a December 2010 game.
The Jets were fined $100,000, Alosi was indefinitely suspended for the incident and resigned after the season. Alosi was hired as UCLA's strength and conditioning coordinator in January 2012.
Authorities later charged Sean Combs, 45, with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery.
“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation,” UCLA coach Jim Mora said in a statement. “This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”
Justin Combs has seen limited action in seven games over the past two seasons, making four tackles. He was a two-star high school recruit after playing cornerback and quarterback at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y.
