Missouri defensive lineman Harold Brantley was upgraded from serious to good condition at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., after a single-car crash on Sunday afternoon, a university spokesman confirmed to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Monday.

Brantley was the driver of a 2000 Chrysler Concorde, heading south on U.S. 63, away from the school's campus. He began to travel “off the left side of the roadway, overcorrected, slid off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned,” according to the accident report. Neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt.

Brantley suffered a broken tibia and underwent successful surgery to repair it on Sunday night. If his condition continues to improve, he could be out of the intensive care unit and moved to a regular room by Tuesday.

Missouri’s medical staff is unclear when he will be cleared to return to football, Mizzou spokesman Chad Moller said in a written statement.

“It’s too soon to put a timetable on a planned return to football activities, so we’re going to leave that open and focus all attention on helping Harold recover and get back to full health first,” Moller said.

Brantley also sustained ligament damage in his left knee that will require surgery at a later date.

Missouri women’s basketball player Maddie Stock was a passenger in Brantley’s car at the time of the accident and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She was released on Sunday.

Brantley, a redshirt junior, played in all of the Tigers’ 14 games as a sophomore in 2014. He made 10 starts and was an All-SEC honorable mention selection by the Associated Press.

Stock, a rising senior for Missouri’s women’s basketball team, played in all 33 of Mizzou’s games last season, averaging 7.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 20.9 minutes per game.
