Auburn, Georgia picked to win SEC divisions in poll of school officials

Auburn and Georgia were picked to win the SEC West and East divisions, respectively, in the 69th annual AL.com/Birmingham News SEC Preseason Football Report poll of the conference’s 14 football information directors.

Auburn and Georgia were picked to win the SEC West and East divisions, respectively, in the 69th annual AL.com/Birmingham News SEC Preseason Football Report poll of the conference’s 14 football information directors.

Auburn received three first-place votes and three second-place votes from the seven West Division information directors for 33 points, one more than Alabama (three first-place votes, two second-place votes and one third-place vote). Georgia won by a wider margin in the East Division, receiving six first-place votes for 36 points. Missouri (one first-place vote, four second-place votes and one fifth-place vote) was second in the East with 28 points.

Auburn will host Georgia on Nov. 14 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The SEC Championship Game will be played Dec. 5 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Auburn finished 8–5 (4–4 SEC) last season after losing to Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl. The Tigers finished fourth in the SEC West, which Alabama won.

Georgia finished 10–3 (6–2 SEC) after defeating Louisville in the Belk Bowl. The Bulldogs finished second in the SEC East behind Missouri.
