Italian guard Federico Mussini verbally committed to St. John’s on Monday, according to multiplereports.

Mussini, 19, is a 6'1" guard who chose the Red Storm over offers from Davidson, Gonzaga, Providence, Vanderbilt, Virginia and others. A strong showing at the Nike Hoop Summit boosted his recruitment, as did the 22.6 points per game and 43% three-point shooting he recorded with Italy at the FIBA U18 European Championship last summer.

Mussini joins a backcourt needing to fill the void left by the graduation of D’Angelo Harrison and the departure of Rysheed Jordan.

St. John’s has now added eight players since Chris Mullin took over as head coach for Steve Lavin. Mullin played for the Red Storm from 1981 to 1985 before a 16-year NBA career.

St. John’s finished 21–12 last season and 10–8 in Big East play, reaching the NCAA tournament before losing to San Diego State in the opening round.
