Report: LSU running back Derrius Guice hospitalized after collapse
LSU freshman running back Derrius Guice was hospitalized Wednesday after collapsing during a workout, according to multiple media outlets.
The New Orleans Times-Picayunereported that Guice was treated for dehydration and a low blood sugar reaction and was expected to be released by the end of the night.
LSU athletic department officials confirmed to WBRZ-TV that a football player was taken to a hospital and video from the television station showed Guice being loaded into the ambulance.
Guice is a five-star prospect who rushed for 1,341 yards and 21 touchdowns and had 617 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a senior at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. He was ranked as the No. 2 running back prospect in the nation by Rivals.com and played in the U.S. Army All-American game.
Guice had 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the game, including a record 92-yard touchdown catch.
He is expected to compete for playing time this season behind starter Leonard Fournette.
