Wake Forest has suspended offensive lineman Ryan Anderson for five games and defensive back Thomas Brown for one game as penalty for violating team rules, according to ESPN's Brett Murphy.

Both players were expected to be starters for the Demon Deacons. Anderson, a redshirt freshman, was slated to be the starting center, and Brown, a junior, would have started at safety.

Brown was a contributing factor to the Deacons' defense last season, playing in all 12 games and recording 54 total tackles with six tackles for loss. He will miss only the season opener against Elon on Sept. 3.

Anderson will not be eligible to return until the team is entrenched in conference play, and will face Boston College in his first game back.

Wake Forest finished 2014 with a 3–9 overall record, and went 1–7 against ACC opponents.
