Clemson defensive back Korrin Wiggins is out for the season after sustaining a torn ACL during practice on Wednesday, the team announced.

Wiggins was injured trying to recover a fumble during the situational scrimmage portion of practice at Memorial Stadium, the Tigers said. The junior has not yet taken a redshirt season, so he will be able to sit out this season and return as a redshirt junior in 2016.

Wiggins was one of four returning players from last year’s Clemson defense that started at least six games. The Tigers had the nation’s top defense last season (260.8 yards allowed per game) and the No. 3 scoring defense (16.7 points allowed per game). Playing as a nickelback, Wiggins recorded 40 tackles (3.5 for loss), two interceptions and two pass breakups.

Clemson finished 10–3 with a 40–6 Russell Athletic Bowl win over Oklahoma. Wiggins notched seven tackles and an interception in the game.

The Tigers enter the season No. 12 in both the preseason Amway Coaches Poll and Sports Illustrated’s top 25.

Starting wide receiver Mike Williams (pulled hamstring) and reserve offensive lineman Daniel Stone (sprained ankle) also sustained injuries on Wednesday. Neither is considered serious.
