Cordell Broadus, Snoop Dogg's son, quits UCLA football team
Cordell Broadus, rapper Snoop Dogg's son, has left the UCLA football team, coach Jim Mora announced on Friday. Tracy Pierson of Scout.com first reported the news.
Broadus, who was an incoming freshman, informed Mora of his decision on Thursday. Though he will not participate in football, he will remain enrolled at UCLA.
Pierson reported that Broadus's reason for quitting was his “wanting to do his own thing.” Mora said in his statement that Broadus "has decided to pursue other passions in his life—in particular his love of film through his company Film School Productions."
Broadus was a four-star prospect out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. The 6'3, 185-pound receiver chose the Bruins over USC and Arizona State.
Broadus told SI.com's Zac Ellis in February that his recruitment had "been hectic at times. I’m still trying my hardest to break out of that shadow and earn a name for myself.”
Snoop Dogg has admitted to pushing Broadus to succeed in football throughout his life. Snoop paid his son $3,000 over two years to start playing the sport at age 6 and started the Snoop Youth Football League.
“That was the potential that I saw in him,” Snoop told SI.com in February. “That’s why I coach him so hard, because he fell in love with [football]...Now that you love it, you’ve got to love it that much more because so many people want your position and want what you want.”
