Central Michigan coach John Bonamego finishes cancer treatment
Central Michigan head football coach John Bonamego completed his final radiation treatment in his fight against tonsil cancer on Friday, he announced on Twitter.
Bonamego, 51, celebrated by sounding the University of Michigan Cancer Center's symbolic victory bell that all patients ring upon completion of their treatment.
The former Central Michigan quarterback and wide receiver was first diagnosed with cancer in June. He was hired by the university in February after 16 years as an NFL assistant.
"I plan to win, win now and be here for a very, very, very, very, very long time," Bonamego said at his introductory press conference.

While being treated for cancer, Bonamego would make the 260-mile drive from Mount Pleasant to Ann Arbor for treatment. He vowed to be on the sidelines for the team's home opener in less than two weeks.
Bonamego and the Chippewas will open the season on Sept. 3 at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
