Florida State RB Dalvin Cook found not guilty of battery
Florida State running back Dalvin Cook has been found not guilty of misdemeanor battery charges, a Florida jury ruled Monday.
Cook had been accused of punching a woman outside a Tallahassee bar in June and suspended indefinitely by the team. After Cook was arrested, his attorney was adamant that his client never struck the woman and questioned the Tallahassee Police Department’s investigation of the case.
In his closing arguments, one of Cook’s attorney’s emphasized the inconsistencies in different witness’s accounts of the incident, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Cook, a sophomore, rushed for 1,008 yards on 170 carries and scored eight touchdowns last season as a true freshman.
If Cook had been convicted, he would have faced up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Earlier this month, while the case left Cook’s future with the Seminoles uncertain, the team took separate team photos with and without Cook.
