FCS No. 12 Montana knocked off No.1 North Dakota State, the four-time defending champs, 38-35 on a last-second run to open college football season.

After NDSU, leading 35-31, held fast for three downs in the red zone, Montana handed the ball to Joey Counts. With six seconds on the clock, Counts rushed left and hit a hole on fourth down to stride into the end zone untouched and kick the campaign off with a surprise.

First-year head coach Bob Stitt earned his first win at Montana after joining the team from Division II Colorado School of Mines. North Dakota State had lost just three games in the past seven years.
