Chad Kelly will be the starting quarterback for Ole Miss in Saturday's season opener against UT Martin, head coach Hugh Freeze announced Monday.

Kelly start on Saturday and in practice this week unless something changes, Freeze said. The competition for the permanent starting position is not over though, and all three Mississippi quarterbacks will play in Saturday's game.

“But I don’t know who our starter for the season will be yet,” Freeze said.

Kelly, a redshirt junior and transfer from Mississippi Community College, has been competing with redshirt sophomores Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade for the starting position.

Kelly began his college career at Clemson, but was dismissed from the team for “detrimental conduct.”
