The Virginia Tech Hokies will wear helmet decals in their season opener honoring two journalists who were shot and killed last week, the school announced Sunday.

Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who was a 2011 Virginia Tech graduate, were killed during a live broadcast for the local CBS affiliate WDBJ-7 on Wednesday. The incident occurred at Smith Mountain Lake, which is about an hour away from Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg, Va.

The helmet decals will feature a number 7 flanked by teal and maroon ribbons. Teal was Parker's favorite color, and maroon is one of Ward's alma mater's school colors.

Parker and Ward both went to high school in Virginia, and Parker graduated from James Madison University in 2012. JMU and Virginia Tech have both created scholarships in their honor.

The Hokies will face Ohio State in their season opener on Sept. 7.
