Tulane will honor the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a jersey patch on the team's uniforms this season.

The commemorative patch displays a torch between a building that represents the university and features the phrase, “Katrina and Beyond.”

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in August 2005, the university was shut down for four months. It was just the second time in Tulane's history—the first being during the American Civil War—that it was closed during the school year.

The Green Wave proceeded with the 2005 football season, however, as the team played each of its games on the road.

Tulane will wear the jersey patch for the first time Thursday night, when it opens the 2015 season against Duke at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.
