Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt has been ruled out for the season after injuring his Achilles in the team's season-opening win against Rhode Island.

The team announced the news Saturday. Hunt will have surgery in the coming days. He was injured after throwing just two passes in Friday night's game, taking a cut on a first-quarter scramble and coming up gimpy. He was replaced by freshman Eric Dungey.

Hunt, a senior, will have his second straight season ended by injury, after breaking his left leg in 2014 and missing the final seven games of the season.

In 19 games at Syracuse, Hunt has thrown for 2,621 yards and accounted for 24 total touchdowns (11 passing, 13 rushing).

Syracuse hosts Wake Forest in Week 2.
