Notre Dame looked strong in Week 1 with a 38–3 victory over Texas. In his first home start at quarterback, Malik Zaire proved that he’s more than just a runner, throwing for 313 yards and three touchdowns. The Fighting Irish held the Longhorns to just 163 yards and eight first downs.
Virginia faced off against nationally-ranked UCLA and had a rough game defensively, surrendering 503 yards in a 34-16 loss. Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen threw for 351 yards. For the Cavaliers offensively, junior running back Taquan Mizzell was the lone bright spot, recording a total of 145 yards on the day.
On Saturday, the Fighting Irish will take on the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va.
