After a 56–21 victory over SMU to open the season, Baylor will look to keep the points coming as they face Lamar, another non-conference opponent. Junior quarterback Seth Russell had a strong showing against SMU with 376 yards through the air, five passing touchdowns, 59 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Baylor's running back rotation was effective and receiver Corey Coleman caught five balls for 178 yards and a touchdown in the opener. Baylor should keep the momentum rolling as they prepare for Big 12 play.
Lamar dominated NAIA school Bacone College 66–3 in its opener, with Caleb Berry throwing for four touchdowns and Kade Harrington running for 143 yards and a score on seven carries.
