Kansas State Punishes Itself Over Halftime Show
On Tuesday, Kansas State announced that it would be issuing a self-imposed discipline for its marching band halftime show that went awry after the internet had a different interpretation of the performance. In addition to fining itself $5,000, KSU also suspended its band director for one game after the band tried to depict a Jayhawk getting into a fight with the Starship Enterprise during the half of the school's season opener against South Dakota and ended up arguably depicting (from some angles) something much more NSFW instead.
The decision to sanction the band for its halftime performance was not without controversy. KSU's marching band performed other formations during the halftime show centered around Star Wars and Star Trek which certainly lends credence to the marching band's claim that the so-called controversial image is really just a spaceship and a Jayhawk. To top it all off, Star Trek icon William Shatner came to the band's defense on Twitter.
I'm not sure about you, but I'm deferring to Captain Kirk on this one.
