The Cy-Hawk Trophy is on the line as the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones meet for their annual rivalry game in Ames, Iowa on Saturday. Both teams are coming off victories in Week 1. The Hawkeyes lead the head-to-head matchup with a 40-22 record that dates back to 1894.

Iowa opened the year with a 31–14 victory over Illinois State, as quarterback C.J. Beathard completed 62.5% of his passes for 211 yards and one touchdown. Receivers Jordan Canzeri and Matt VandeBerg proved to be go-to options for the junior quarterback as they combined for more than 140 receiving yards and one touchdown in the victory.

Iowa State overcame a slow start to snap their two-game season-opening losing streak to an FCS school by defeating Northern Iowa 31–7. Quarterback Sam Richardson showed signs of improvement over last season's 50% completion rate by connecting on 72.4% of throws for 233 yards and two touchdowns.

Iowa State has won three of the last four meetings between the schools, including last year's 40-22 win in Iowa City.
