The UCF Knights travel across the country to take on the Stanford Cardinal in the first ever matchup between the two schools.

Stanford will look to rebound from a 16–6 season-opening loss to the Northwestern that bounced the Cardinal from the top 25. Stanford needs increased production from all aspects of the offense, after the team failed last week to score in the double digits for the first time since 2007. Senior quarterback Kevin Hogan only managed 155 passing yards against the Wildcats, and he threw an interception. Running back Christian McCaffrey posted 66 yards rushing on 12 carries, but the team as a wleho only rushed for 85 yards.

UCF did not fare much better in its opening game, as the Knights fell 15–14 to the FIU Panthers. UCF had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds, but freshman kicker Matthew Wright had his 47-yard field goal attempt blocked as time ran out. Quarterback Justin Holman led a pass-happy offense, finishing the game 23-for-34 passing with 249 yards and two touchdowns.
