BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) Western Kentucky senior running back Leon Allen left Thursday night's game against Louisiana Tech with a left leg injury.

Allen, who rushed for 1,542 yards last season, sustained the injury with 12:47 remaining in the third quarter. Quarterback Brandon Doughty threw incomplete to Allen with linebacker Nick Thomason covering him. Thomason had his arms wrapped around Allen's lower left leg, which was severely bent backward while being tackled.

Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm didn't know Allen's status immediately afterward but said, ''I'm not very optimistic. It's unfortunate. ... Without him it's going to be a challenge.''

Houchens-Smith Stadium was silent as medical personnel tended to Allen, who eventually got up and limped to the sidelines to cheers before going to the dressing room. He emerged later on crutches with the leg in a brace before being taken to a hospital.

Allen had rushed for 81 yards including a 28-yard touchdown on 12 carries before the injury. The Hilltoppers won 41-38.
