Crook leads Albany (NY) to 35-7 win over Rhode Island

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) D.J. Crook threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Albany (N.Y.) to a 35-7 victory over Rhode Island to open Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday.

Elliot Croskey rushed for 141 yards and scored twice in the final quarter.

Crook, who threw for 191 yards, led the Great Danes (1-1, 1-0 CAA) to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Crook ran it in from the seven to start the scoring and then hit Josh Gontarek on an 8-yard scoring strike. Gontarek pulled in five passes for 51 yards and Brad Harris caught four for 55 yards.

Rhode Island (0-2, 0-1) had six turnovers - two interceptions and four fumbles. The Rams, trailing 21-0, drove to the Albany 7 early in the fourth quarter but John Forster pounced on a Paul Mroz fumble to stop that drive.
