Butler wins home opener 41-14 over D-III Franklin

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Matt Shiltz threw three first-half touchdowns and ran in another before the break, helping Butler pull away from Division-III Franklin for a 41-14 win on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (1-1) led 31-0 after Shiltz completed his third TD pass with 1:22 left in the first half, a 7-yard toss to PaceTemple.

Franklin (0-2) opened its scoring on Chase Burton's 1-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter. But Butler answered with 10 straight points before the Grizzlies scored again with 2:49 left in the game.

Shiltz finished 16 of 26 for 189 yards and ran nine times for 83 yards. Malcolm Weaver, who replaced Shiltz in the fourth quarter, threw a 62-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Cotter.

Burton completed 30 of 40 passes for 191 yards for Franklin, but the Grizzlies gained only 89 yards on 34 carries.
