Two Utah football players are recovering from gun shot wounds sustained Saturday night, coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed Sunday.

According to police, tight end Lo Falemaka and running back Marcel Brooks-Brown were at a private party just before midnight when the host asked the three suspects to leave. When they wouldn’t leave, Falemaka and Brooks-Brown asked the suspects to leave a second time, and an altercation occurred. That’s when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot both of the players in the torso.

Police say they’re in stable condition and expected to recover.

“Obviously, our first concern is that both Lo and Marcel are going to be OK, which appears to be the case,” coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. “We don’t have all of the details yet, but it is our understanding that they are the victims in this incident and we feel very fortunate that they are expected to fully recover. It is unknown at this time how soon they will be able to return to the football field but we are optimistic it will be in the near future.”
